I'm BACKKKKK! After a few weeks of personal difficulties in my life, I've finally managed to sort myself out and move forward.
Of course, with Halloween coming up, I wanted to do something fun for myself and my blog. I saw a video of a girl doing this on Instagram and thought it looked quite easy to do...two hours later, this was the result. I personally think it would have been better with some fake blood (but I was too afraid to try that, with it being my first time), so I ended up using SFX pro colour creams instead, which didn't bring out the red as much as I liked but because I ended up mixing shades of black and a bit of purple, it all kind of mixed in together.
To re-create this look, you will need the following products:
- A zip (mine was 7" and was less than £1.00 from my local fabric market, but you can get for cheap at any haberdashery store or eBay/amazon)
- SFX glue (I used Spirit Gum bought from Amazon)
- Latex (Optional - I bought mine from Amazon)
- Pro cream face palettes (I purchase mine here)
- Makeup Brushes (I used old ones from Morphe Brushes, but you can purchase professional SFX brushes online)
- Fabric Scissors (Optional depending on your zip - to trim the sides and ends of excess fabric)
- A makeup sponge (Available from local drugstore in multi-packs)
- Creamy black eyeliner
- Your favourite products to create your makeup look!
The Method:
1. Start off with a clean face, remove any traces of makeup or oils. A bare face will help your zip to stick on your face.
2. (Optional) Trim your zip carefully on the sides and ends, and start positioning on your face where you would like it. You can place the zip anywhere you like...upside down, in the middle, horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The choice is yours but in my case it was diagonally across one eye, which happened to fit from the top to bottom of my face.
3. Using the spirit gum (careful - it's got a very toxic smell about it but perfectly safe), and starting from the bottom of the zip, start layering the glue and waiting for it to become tacky before placing in position on the face. Continue spreading the glue on the zip until zip is in position.
4. (Optional) Using the latex and a medium sized brush, start patting in the latex in the zip area to build texture of the face muscle. Add the layers sparingly, and wait for each layer to dry before adding more latex. Add as much texture as you wish to create your face muscle affect, in this case, I only added 3 layers.
5. Using a creamy black eyeliner, start outlining the area of the 'muscle' eye inside the waterline and on the eyelid. This does not have to be neat - use your ring finger to start smudging the colour outwards.
6. Once latex has dried, using a damn makeup sponge, start painting on top of the latex with red cream, patting in the colour as a base. Then start layering more red, darkening some areas with black and purple cream. At this point, it is your preference as to how you want it to look like...add as much colour as you like to build texture and dimension. It took me about 30 minutes, adding colour back and forward to this area.
7. Now that the 'unzipped' side is done, I opted for a full-glam look on the other half of the face. This part is up to you, as to how you'd like it to look. I used MAC Pink Pearl and Silver Glitter for the eyes, Ardell Demis wispies eye lashes, Kevyn Aucoin contour, and MAC All Fired Up lipstick.
8. Now take all the selfies you need!
What are your halloween looks this year?
looks amazing babe!
